News From The Front...The Germans Launch Attack on Tailleville
The Germans, commanded by Col Wruff, launched the awaited attack. BUT, it came from the west side of the map, instead of the northeast corner. That was a surprise to the Allied commander! The Allied forces were as follows, along with the initial defensive positions.
[img] [/img]
Initial positions:
[img] [/img]
I ordered my troops to hold in place and see what Gerry would do. He probed along my left. Thanks to the Stuie, I was able to hold him off from capturing the VL until the last second! Unfortunately, I wasn't placed well enough on the right to keep him from capturing the northern VL. Casualties were light on both sides.
Gerry will now have some hard cover (concrete bunkers) to place AT guns in the next battle.

Re: GJS WAR AAR Day 18
The Battle of Rauray continued against Col Wruff on the 3rd day with heavy fighting.....and, another damned crashed game!! The town was assaulted from the north. Gerry's inf seemed unstoppable as they hoped from one building to another. We still hold the main building and the exit VL, but lost the church and buildings to the immediate north.
The game crashed at the very end. It was rebuilt with German losses of one inf gunned HT (I got lucky and dropped a mortar round right down his armored throat); and he knocked out our M-10. The Battle Results are as follows:

Re: GJS WAR AAR Day 18
Yes unfortunately he now has access to Hillman and our rear...
He seems to have not worried about moving into Thaon or has he shifted the Pz Grens back? and the tigers into Creully?...not that it matters much now in any case. the point is we have nothing to stop him from grabbing maps after Hillman, and more importantly no reserve to plug any gaps, or troops cabable of retaking ground lost.
All we can do is to fall back from Rauray to shorten the front and use 44/15 as a mobile reserve. .....Yet another German infantry saving crash at Rauray ...hard luck again on our side. You did well not to get wiped out Knights
Cheers
Ronson
I expect an attack form the 21Panzers in THOAN, but in the enemys place I would go into TAILLEVILLE with the one objective of taking the HILLMAN exit which is but a stones throw from the entry. I'd ignore losses and just grab that exit. I don't see it happening this turn as there are no enmey BGs in Bayeux ready to move down into THOAN.

Lingevres & Cristot AM 18th
Lingevres vs Pzt_Kevin 18th am
After speaking with Ronson before the game we came up with some ideas on this map it made me feel at ease about how to play it, thanks. I think for the most part it went pretty well since our BG is out of supply now. The battle starts off with Kevin's Tiger sitting right on the other side of the Bridge where i had it lightly defended. I put to FF's on the river to give the bridge supporting fire. Kevin countered with a MarkIVH and killed one of my FF's it poor luck as he had los and I did not it took him at least 15 shots to kill it, had i had los it would have went no more than three rounds, unlucky! Other than that he charged across the bridge supported by his Tiger I did the best I could, he also moved the Mark IVH into view of a six pounder which had damaged the tank but lost the battle! all in all I lost two units a FF & ATG. and lost a little ground.
Setup
FF No Los
Tiger Support
The Dead
Results
Cristot vs Pzt_Kevin 18th AM
Again Ronson and I had discussed some idea's here so i setup to defend against Panthers. I took 4 ATG two Stu's and to FF's. The attack started in the buildings by the field i left them empty to allow him to come to my kill zone and not loose our preciouse men so easily to his suport fire. I lost some Territory but i manage to inflick nice casualties on his attack, The piece of gold for the battle is the Co Panther Ldr who is now out of commision. On to the screen shots
one last thing, saved the artillery.

Assault gone wrong!

Re: GJS WAR AAR Day 18
Battle of Villiers v Kevin.
As I knew this would be an encounter I took as many vehicles as pssible to offset his infantry superiority:-
By rd_ronson at 2012-01-14
Set up to get as much of the map as possible and above all to take and hold the Hottot VL at the extreme top of map.....it was going to be a race here:-
By rd_ronson at 2012-01-14
Sent my tanks racing ahead to hold him up as much as they could I expected to lose some but getting that VL and a firm foothold in the houses was essential here. So I pushed the infantry in afterwards .....we lost 2 tanks but managed to take a hell of a lot of that town and got the exit VL I'm sure he was after. Supported by tanks our infantry managed to clear houses although its a heavy butchers bill I wouldn't expect anything else against Kevin.
Final result:-

Pegasus Bridge vs Pzt_Kevin 18th am
i setup with plenty of ATG and a couple of M10's one recon car. From the start he had an 8.8 right out in the open across the bridge I shot at it with several squads killing all but one man who finally killed one of my 6 pounders. Then kevin started driving men across the bridge i killed all of them in bloody close range fighting! I then launched a counter attack across the bridge as time ran out. Kevin holds the vl on the bridge but he was inside my buildings on both sides so i did manage to take back ground I held the flag with about 10 seconds to go but he retook with another counter attack! the bridge was a heated battle! It was F***ing awesome.

Battle of Bavent
Battle of Bavent vs Pzt_Kevin
The set up
The plan was to attack from the north and in the same way I expected german attack vs the big building in the center of the map.
I repulsed the attack in the center, killing a lot of germans and destroying 1 stug.
I was surprised by the atg, it had line of sight vs my churchill, I got my revenge using air support!
In the north, I occupied soon the buildings and it was easy to kill all the germans during their advance!
I was able to manouvre my churchill and I shot first vs the second Stug, unfortunately I missed the first shot, the damned stug turned and hit the track of my churchill, I lost my LOS meanwhile the german tank manteined its LOS and destroyed my tank
Final result, I got a lot of ground and the germans are in a small corner!
Strategic situation

Re: GJS WAR AAR Day 18
Well done Gentlemen for the Morning turn...nice fight at the bridges...what a shame that all XLegiones efforts to wipe the german infantry are cancelled out by this faulty file..you did all that was expected, yet we have nothing to show for it
Maybe this should be called operation Ressurection as the Germans seem to be returning from the dead with alarming fequency!
A great battle at Bavent however ...now that what I call attacking hard, hit the panzer is Hillman like that and we're halfway home!
Great fights too by Loki, our Panther stalker, a good blood letting for those Pz Grens at Pegusus will do us just right.....next turn we'll take the 22/7 in there and retake the bridge, and they can do it all over again ....
I'll knock out some orders have a look while I sleep (yes I do sometimes) and if you're all happy with them I'll EXEC them in the morning.
As Michael Caine might say .....Well Done Chaps!
Cheers

Re: GJS WAR AAR Day 18
Speaking of Panthers If I kill or incapacitate 3 out 5 doe's that tank die? I always thought if you killed or incap over half the men it was eliminated. unless out of supply although I am still sure tanks at this point are eliminated.
Can some one verify this for me please?

Re: GJS WAR AAR Day 18
so then how does there Panther survive at Cristot?
this picture is of file 27 the battle bofore Cristot, pay attention to the names, Hauer and Komp.
files 27 b4 cristot
this is file 28 again the two men mentioned only one's alive.
hauer & komp
this is a screenshot of the tank with 28 seconds to go.
3 out
and this is file 32 after the pegaus bridge.
Befel Panther still alvie
Look who is back.
Hauer & komp survive
I don't know how that works can someone explain this? Again I assume 3/5 gone, as the picture shows this tank should not come back.

Re: GJS WAR AAR Day 18
Ciao Loki, this is a mistery also for me, what I know is that more than 50% of a unit is eliminated, the unit is lost, when you fought the battle, have you verified in the total amount of the losses (strategic window) if the germans lost the tank?

Battle of Tailleville
Battle of Tailleville vs Pzt_Kevin
The set up
The BG was ou of supply, I deployed 2 Firefly and 1 M10 covering the main road.
The tigers advanced without any problem, they were confident about armour superiority.... too confident!
The first ambushed was very lucky, a few meters the hit has bounced!
The second attempt was better, I destroyed the first big cat!
Tanks duel was very intensive, I lost 1 M10 and 1 FF, the final hit was a success, the second Tigers destroyed!
The final result

Battle of Lingevres
Battle of Lingevres vs Pzt_Kevin
The set up
I tried to defend the Rauray VL, unfortunately the germans concentrated all the units to get that VL.
I was able to hold the ground until the big cat moved in action.
I didn't have any drops of petrol, all the tanks immobilized, difficult to stop the tiger in this way.
The final result, the germans gained terrain but we have the possibility to withdraw the BG to Hottot.
The strategic situation

Battle of Cristot
Battle of Cristot vs Pzt_Wruff
Set up
After few seconds, my ATG was spotted and destroyed... it was hidden in the bocage
This is the sequence of the hits vs damned panthers.... at least 4 or 5 hits each tank!
The situation at few minutes to the end... I lost 1 FF because the panther had line of sight and my tank no!
The final result
4 ATGs lost and 2 FFs destroyed

Villers vs Pzt Wruff 18th PM
I don't deploy in the south at all, I want to hold the Hottot vl and so if Wruff attacks i will need a combined arms effort. I had three moving tanks and one stewart that did not. He had one MarkIV that a piat team took care of. I lost my tank supporting infantry and he panzerfaust it. other than that just the silly rush every one at the end stuff.

Hill 112 vs Pzt_Wruff 18th pm
Wruff allowed me set up across the river on the left side because he said that would be fair. So I took advantage of it and we had a glorious battle! Many men were killed from both sides, I had men on both sides of the bridge. He had an invisible 8.8 sitting right in the hedge i could not spot it from just a few meters away as it pounded me. Finally we spotted it and my Duel six pounders across the river destroy it. I had losses as well he spotted an atg on the other side of the river it was destoyed and I took the Staghound across the bridge and it was destoyed by the 8.8. Game Crashed with less than 20 seconds we rebuilt it and it still did not work out i have screenshots.

2O SECONDS TO GO
RESULTS AFTER THE REBUILD
He said we would take a 10 minute break, which turned into a half hour wich in turned into nothing. I wanted to finish the round out.
We can setup across the river next battle.

Re: GJS WAR AAR Day 18
Good Fights for you both, 2 tigers is nice result, and don't worry about the Cristot ending it will give us a reserve tomorrow morning when it reforms. Hardly surprising that Hill 112 crashed it must be the regulation crash per turn that we seem to get with this file. still we maintain our position there.

News From The Front......British Contain Gerry At Bavent
The stated objective on Bavent was to throw Gerry off the map....however, their troops had other ideas! The opening bell saw multiple German squad sprint to and into the Chateau Bavent building. Once there, my two inf assaults could not dislodge him....and were wiped out.
The Brits:

And jump-off positions:

AS reported, fighting was very intense over the Chateau. I managed to squeeze Gerry's deploy down along his northern flank. My mortar barrage knocked out an inf gun deployed in shrubs adjacent to the road junction.
