Greetings Gentlemen Smile
No worries about 1 ATG Capt. Steiner, you're forgiven!, ......just first round is on you when we meet up for the Victory night out drunken .

Yes I agree with you if Wruff wishes to rant and rave leave him to it, it don't bother me, if there's one thing I have learnt its that you never win an arguement on the internet.

To more inportant matters, our future Strategy. I watched all the battles yesterday, almost managing to get one in myself (but thats another story) all 4 games were well fought, at Lingevres the enemy sat still. They attacked as we thought they would at Cristot, so we remain in command of the 2 vital exits and can now back up the position by getting a BG into Capiquet. At Juvigny we suffered a setback by losing the Villiers exit, it's no fault of XLegiones, I have examined his deploy and to be honest I would have deployed in the same manner, those German infantry are just so strong its almost impossible to stop them when they concentrate. I expected the 21 panzer to go East to get supply not to the West, but I think it does now point to his Startegic plan.
At Gavrus XLegione fought a successful battle and managed to destroy one of the big enemy guns, and pushed towards the Supply VL.

Overall now I have been looking closely at the Strat Map which leads me to this conclusion:-
We lack depth, our units are spread over a wide area, fighting their own little battles, usually with success but its very splintered, nobody really is providing that vital support to each other. Hill112 is a case in point, that unit in there is fighting virtually alone once its worn down, as it will be, there's hardly anything to stop a breakout taking 2 or 3 maps for free. The same applies to our own offensive at Bavent, it has no back up BG to slip in and take its place when it clears that map.

Next turn Day3 AM the enemy recieve Stug BGs in the WEST and in the SOUTH, this means that our attack at Gavrus really has no relevance anymore, as we cannot now hope to link up with our BGs in the South. it also endangers our offensive at Bavent by providing the enemy with a ready made reserve which he can slip in and out to hold that map if he needs to.

So I suggest a drastic measure.....next turn we will withdraw from Gavrus back into Villiers expecting to meet the 21Panzer who will come in from Juvigny. this will confirm the enemys intentions pretty clearly.
Should this occur I propose that we fight the morning turn in the North West, but we disband all 3 BGs there and find a far better use for them when they respawn on our depots on Day4.
I said it was drastic didn't I Smile .

The alternative is to hold out unsupplied facing stronger BG in the North before being worn down by his more numerous BGs, while leaving our lines futher south wafer thin and liable to penetration at any time.

Those 2 light armour BGs could be useful in a counterattack role when supplied in the South maybe towards the Hill 112 area? or Bavent. While the poor 9/3Canadians will just be submerged by his better quality Bgs if they stay where they are. They could however perform a useful role as a back up to our front line armour BGs if they come South.

Have a think about it and weight it up in your minds, please feel free to disagree, you don't get edited on this forum Smile .......and I promise not to rant & rave if you do (scouts honour!).

Meanwhile we have a fight at Hill112 today we need to hold out here so defence is the dish of the day chaps, use whatever equipment you need, you do have back up, though its of poor quality so I'd rather we held with the BG thats there.
Bavent battle will be our attack, go in hard and show no mercy.
Pegusus will be defence again, I'd like to know as much intel about the enemy you can pick up here, how many ATG he depolys, how many tanks, where he places them etc. a screen shot would be great if you can get it. Smile

Thanks for your time reading this long winded account. have a think and post your views.

Cheers
Ronson

Commander, the strategic situation is difficult in the north west part of the map and I agree with you about our units are spread over a wide area, fighting their own little battles and nobody really is providing that vital support to each other.
I agree with you about to withdraw from Gavrus to Villers Bocage, but I would like to hold the ground in the other maps. We were able to inflict heavy casualties to germans, if we leave the maps to them without fighting is a big gift to them.
They have to pay a lot every meter of terrain, preparing a reserve in the middle, disbandig the units in the north west, is not useful in this moment, may be later.
21st Panzer is OOS and if they move to Villers Bocage they will fight without tanks support.
The situation is difficult but not dramatic, we can get extreme measure later.

Strenght and Honor, they will not pass Evil or Very Mad !

I'm with X, I don't want to disband any units at this time. With our excellent defensive commanders we can hold out and inflict heavy causualties in the NW if they are not careful.
I don't think the South is in any difficulty at all, even if we are a bit thin.
In the West I wish we would have withdrawn earlier from Gavrus, but even now it will be a solid move.
In my opinion Pegasus will hold for a long time... and at Orne Bridge we can definately hold out a few more turns at a minimum. What about if we switched the BG backing up Pegasus (22/7) with the BG backing up Orne (70/49)? If 22/7 is stronger?

*Maybe we can revisit the aggressive approach of attacking what seems to be his 'holding' positions like Thaon and even maybe Cruelly (tho a hard attacking map)? I know the deploys are terrible but possible it would give them pause with their Heavy BGs slamming into the NW. I even think our commanders might possibly make some headway there. Our play has been totally reactionary so far... I would like to see a little internet Shocked on their faces (and not just when one from their sides turns tail and runs off). What do you guys think?

His Tiger BG is at the moment sitting in Port Bessin, so I think we are safe from an attack in the North this move. I would have liked to have swapped the 22/7 into the west in place of the 70/49 but it will take far too long to do unfortunately.
The 22/7 will however move Northwards this turn to Buron where its nicely placed to get into any of the maps we wish it to go to.
I don't really wish to start an offensive in the North yet until we have finished in the South. lets see if we can clear Bavent before we start on any other actions, then we can concentrate our support on the one attack.
I'm afriad that with our weaker BGs we don't have much option other than to defend, believe me I'd love to have a strong BG that we could counter attack with, but when his infantry outnumbers ours in numbers as well as quality its pretty nigh impossible.
XLegione and myself looked at his Ersatz Grenadiers in Rauray, they are all green colour bars as opposed to our yellow and orange!

Orders are now posted, I will place the other support later but you can see the outline,

It is vitally important that we hold the bridges at PEGUSUS and HILL112 and Attack hard at Bavent to clear the enemy from this map, BAVENT will have full support at all times from now onwards both AM & PM turns.

I await your comments Smile

Post  RD_Steiner Mon Jan 09, 2012 6:42 am

well gents ...i agree with ronson on his overall strat and his extreme moves.

we should withdraw to Villers for sure. once the 21 pz enters Villers all our BGs in the NW will be out of supply but the 131/7 in villers. he will get supply from hottot or lingereves at some point.
i think we should fight this morn turn in the NW and then look at it again for the afternoon move....see how much damage were doing. we should be mind full of equip losses in the NW bg's tho, as i think we should disband them at some point and use them else where.
i think the germans are going to attack into hermanville this turn with the other 21 PZ TK bg.
we are spread too thin and were going to lose the NW anyways. we get 2 tk and 1 AB BG's in the south area on the morn of the 20th.

if we have 1 bad battle at hill 112 or pegasus we got troubles as far as plugging gaps till the 20th.

Thx Capt. Steiner,
I expect an attack form the 21Panzers in THOAN, but in the enemys place I would go into TAILLEVILLE with the one objective of taking the HILLMAN exit which is but a stones throw from the entry. I'd ignore losses and just grab that exit. I don't see it happening this turn as there are no enmey BGs in Bayeux ready to move down into THOAN.

Yes you are right about the Bridges at Pegusus and Hill112, if he gets across either of them I'm very much afraid the games up, we have a weak reserve at Hill112 but none to back up Pegusus.

His BGs are so strong in quality terms (as well as numbers) I can't see anyway we will be able to recapture maps even had we the reserves available to do it. I certainly wouldn't rate my chances very high of doing so.

Still if we can hold out another 4 turns, we'll get another 2 armour BGs arrive and maybe they will be stronger Smile

With the Germans now able to move into Hillman from Talliville we do not have the troops available to hold on in Rauray in any case. We must shorten the line by pulling the 146/49 back into Bretteville so that we can release the 44/15 as a reserve to try to retake maps once his 21 panzer starts to sweep them up.......

All we can hope for now is to hold at a Minor victory level until Day 5 reinforcements arrive and shore up the front.

Ok we're almost up to the end of the morning turn for day 3 now so a few thoughts....

We will be pulling back from RAURAY this turn to free up the 44/15 to move into Hermanville, and the 9/3 will go into HILLMAN to meet the 21 Panzer...this I expect to be a side by side deploy....if this occurs we MUST attack hard here ...this is the chance to stop this attack in its tracks (no pun intended ) the remaining BGs will remain static at present.

Apart from 22/7 which will relieve 185/3 in PEGUSUS.

Support where available will be given to the attack formations.

Any thoughts?

Cheers
Ronson

PS you will notice yet ANOTHER infantry saving crash at HILL112 this turn, this is starting to get very frustrating! Evil or Very Mad

I think that your orders are very good, I agree with you, we don't have any other options.

This is the moment to counterattack hard and stopping the germans to Hillman!

Hey Ronson,
Just a note- the 131/7 in Villers, not Gavrus. Right?
Still hold Hottot exit as orders.

Congratulations XLegione Very Happy ...you can pin two tiger tails to your command vehicle!

We will withdraw from LINGEVRES back into HOTTOT. We have no ATG left here now and I don't think we can hold those buildings near the exit VL now he has a foothold.

BGs in both HILLMAN & TAILLIVILLE will both stay and fight this turn.

The 8/3 has reformed at LEBISEY it will move towards the coast to clear up any breakthrough from HILLMAN.

On past form the enemy may well move out of HILLMAN towards the costal maps, now we have a BG that can contest this move.

We don't need to switch at HILL112 this turn, However we will nedd to switch at PEGUSUS

In the cut off NW, 131/7 willl continue to hold at VILLIERS

We can however move the 9/3 Cdn into CRISTOT, which could be something of a surprise for him if those Panthers attack into CARPIQUET....be warned they will come in alongside his PzGrens if this occurs, but it might be worth a gamble, as currently they are performing a not very useful function just sitting in JUVIGNY waiting to be picked off.......Better dead on your feet than live on your knee eh?

These moves are posted at DO NOT EXEC

Views on this move please?

Cheers
Ronson

WOW...you guys are doing an amazing job Very Happy considering the caliber of german BG's against us!! Bravo men! keep up the good work!!
those panthers are almost impossible to stop......a damage is almost as good as a kill and you can only kill or damage them buy shooting at them and that usually gets you killed but thats the way of it........

if you get 3 out 5 of a tank crew it should be a kill.....dont know what the deal was with that panther you were all talking about........typical PC BS i think.
if a tank is damaged its a 40% chance it doesnt come back.

IMO we need to get a h/t destroyed on the hill 112 bridge your thoughts Col. Ronson?

your strat plan for this turn looks ok to me. Cool

sorry i havent been active men...i had my PC tuned up and then work and xtra shifts are getting in the way of me cutting down german squads and knocking out panzers!
i have to go out of town now for a day or 2 and then back to work again...ARGHHHHH affraid but ill try to get some games in and hopefully help the allied cause ..but you never no how the gods of war will favour that / us..... Suspect

keep up the good fight men!

Yes you're right dgfred many thx, orders now edited ....thats why it always pays to have them read by another person before going 'live'.

Thanks for the praise for the team Capt. Steiner....its all due to the blokes doing the fighting believe me, I just sit here making it all up and drinking Scotch!lol.

Yes definately some odd results at CRISTOT last turn against those Panthers. This is not the first time this has occured, and it looks to me as if those beasts are virtually unstoppable.

I looked at XLegiones screenshots and I can find no fault with his set up, those guns were hitting the tanks at short range including one on the side armour to no effect......and being spotted within a few seconds? most strange.
I've known XLegione for a long time and maybe I'm biased as I consider him a friend, I've played many a hotly contested game against him and I can tell you all that when he positions an ATG you just don't see it until it hits you...So although that looks on paper a bad result I can assure you that is in no way down XLegione.

Orders are now EXEC status .....can we please keep an eye on the victory level at the end of each round now? thx Smile
